Real Dream Team NBA – Schedule Analysis – Week 15

Devastating. There is no other word that accurately describes the passing of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his 13 year daughter Gianna. A generation of basketball fans grew up watching Kobe and the Lakers dominate the NBA for the best part of a decade. Kobe himself played for 20 years in the NBA, with career accomplishments almost to long to list.

NBA Champion (5 times – 2000/2001/2002/2009/2010)

NBA Finals MVP (twice – 2009/2010)

NBA MVP (2008)

NBA All-Star (18 times – 1998/2000-2016)

NBA All-Star Game MVP (4 times – 2002/2007/2009/2011)

All-NBA Teams (15 times – First team (11) – 2002-2004/2006-2013, Second team (2) – 2000/2001, Third Team (2)  – 1999/2005)

NBA All-Defensive Teams (12 times – First team (9) times – 2000/2003/2004/2006-11, Second team (3) – 2001/2002/2012)

NBA Scoring Champion (twice – 2006/2007)

Olympic Games Gold Medallist (2008/2012)

NBA Slam Dunk Champion (1997)

Second Highest individual score in an NBA game (2006 – 81 points)

Academy Award Winner (2018 – Best Animated Short Film – Dear Basketball)

Statistics are only a small part of his legacy however. The most enduring trait about Kobe will always be his drive to be the best. Much like Michael Jordan before him, Kobe’s will to win was unsurpassed. Along with his prodigious talent, his work ethic was elite. I recall a story told by a young player about Kobe’s mentality. New to the NBA, this player got to the gym early to do an additional workout on his day off, only to find Kobe already there. Both players worked out for a couple of hours, before the young player was done and went back into the changerooms. Kobe came in 30 minutes later and the young player asked him why he was out there so long. His response – “I need you to know that no matter how hard you work, I will always work harder.”

RIP Black Mamba and Gianna.

Schedule Breakdown

8 Game Teams

Once again we are very light for 8 game teams, so make sure you plan your trades accordingly.

Dallas (@Ind, Mem, @Was, @Cha) – Every coach will have Luka Doncic in their team this week, and rightly so. But are there any other Mavs that you can look to bring into your team? Kristaps Porzingis is one player to consider if you are short of cash at the centre position. He is priced at $10.36m and is averaging 21.6Fppg this season. He scored 9 Fantasy points in his first game back after a few games off due to injury this week. He followed that up by scoring 24 and 20 Fantasy points in the next two games.

Detroit (@Mem, Pho, @OKC, NYK) – Despite being the subject of trade rumours, Andre Drummond has continued his fantastic scoring in the past couple of weeks. He missed one game this week due to injury, but came out the next night and scored 30 Fantasy points. The only issue with Drummond would be if he does get traded, and misses a game in transition. Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose is have a resurgence this season, throwing back the clock to when he dominated the competition early in his career. He is averaging 18.5Fppg for the season, with scores last week of 28, 20 and 28. He will be priced at around $9m once lockout lifts this afternoon.

Houston (Cha, @LAL, @Pho, Uta) – James Harden would have been one of the most selected players this week, however he missed the last game with a thigh injury that has left him questionable for the first game of Week 15. If he is given the all clear, he should be in your team this week. Keep a close eye on the injury reports.

Houston have another two players averaging over 25Fppg – Clint Capela (28.9) and Russell Westbrook (26) are both options that you can look to bring in, especially if you are short on cash.
