Maroons Origin Team – Fantasy Fallout

Updated: May 24, 2016

XXXX Queensland Maroons coach Kevin Walters has today named two debutants in his 17-man team for Game I of the Holden State of Origin series.

In-form Cowboys centre Justin O’Neill will make his Maroons debut at right centre, vacated by the retired Justin Hodges. Club partner Kyle Feldt has missed out maiden scalp in favour of Knights fullback Dane Gagai.

Boom Broncos winger Corey Oates will also debut, partnering with Rabbitohs fullback Greg Inglis in the centres. Darius Boyd has been named at fullback after continuing his strong club form.

The selectors have remained loyal with the selection out-of-form Manly prop Nate Myles. Myles who is set to play his 30th Origin has ousted representative forward Sam Thaiday from the starting side.

Roosters backrower Aidan Guerra has held his Origin spot with Josh Papalii joining Josh McGuire and Michael Morgan on the bench.

Fantasy Fallout

  •  Popular Broncos winger Corey Oates is a definite sell after being named on the wing for Queensland.
  • Johnathan Thurston will miss at least four club matches for the Cowboys over the next two months. For overall coaches, the Maroons five-eighth is a sell.
  • Storm captain Cameron Smith could be the only realistic hold option for overall players. He currently boasts the highest average in both Fantasy and Supercoach of any Maroons player.
  • Broncos captain Corey Parker has lost the goal kicking duties (at least in the short-term) and will miss a minimum of three matches over the next two months. If last year is any indication, coach Wayne Bennett will rest the representative lock once again. This makes Parker a sell.
  • Overlooked Cowboys forward Gavin Cooper will attract a heap of attention over the first month of the Origin period with the Cowboys favourable bye schedule. Throw Kyle Feldt, Jake Granville and Ethan Lowe into the same category.
  • Anthony Milford is set to be the most captained player in round 12 after missing Origin due to suspension. Milford and the Broncos will face the 13th placed Wests Tigers.
