Dream Team NBA Captain Options – Week 5

Updated: November 15, 2021

It was a bit of car wreck with the amount of missed games by a lot of popular premo picks with Jokic, Giannis and Butler just a few who missed games.    There were big scores from incumbents Davis, Curry, Durant, Morant, Young, Ball, Harden and Valanciunas this week with all players exceeding 120.  Conversely, there were some pretty disappointing performances too, with the following players losing plenty of cash, meaning you need to offload ASAP.  Beal, Sabonis, Holiday, Vucevic, Randle and McCollum all lost at least 250k this week and had been performers of some note previously.

For some players warming up and having plenty more cash to be made, look at Tyrese Maxey.  He should hit 10M in a few weeks and is priced at only $7.5M.  Other cheapies to look at to replace underperforming bench players, Gary Payton II, Frank Kaminsky, Herbert Jones and Bones Hyland all had slow starts to the year but now have turned things up and should start generating a lot of coin.  It’s still early doors and this is the most important time to make some extra dosh, even if you’re struggling (like myself) to turn out good scores each week.

Captaincy Considerations

A big allocation of games this week has us with 19 teams on 4 game slates and plenty to consider

  • Luka Doncic has had a slow start to the year by his standards, but after his first triple double for the season this past week, things are looking up for Dallas sitting 4th in the west and should turn out a big 120+ week

  • Nikola Jokic hurt us a little with his suspension last week, but still managed 122 points from just 3 games, including 2 which he didn’t play a lot of minutes.  No reason not to have Joker in your team.

  • Steph Curry had some week just gone and the Warriors look to be the team to beat so far this year.  I’m not concerned about their east coast road trip, the Chef will be cooking and should be trade target #1 this week regardless.

  • Anthony Davis sure showed me by saying to disregard all Lakers, with Lebron still out, his own injury concerns have disappeared and looks fit and firing.  A swap for Giannis this week wouldn’t be your worst choice (even as a 1 week rental) and will go 120+ again this week

  • Jonas Valanciunas aka Mr Consistent, is just getting it done week in, week out and would have been a great option to swap out for Embiid last week.  The Pelicans are in the middle of a big block of 4 game week slates and whilst Zion is out, he will get ample scoring and rebounding opportunities every single night.

Will’s Captain – Nikola Jokic

Despite Curry’s form, I’m sticking with Joker again for this week, his numbers just are too hard to ignore and is on his outlier again this year.
