Dream Team NBA Captain Options – Week 21

Well, the season has drawn to a close and hopefully, you’re competing for the GF glory in your NBA RDT leagues.  Or if you’re like me, just looking to make some moves in the overall standings.  This past week so saw some absolutely ridiculous scores from Russell Westbrook and Domantas Sabonis with 183 and 176 each.  Russ was expected to go big this week, but I didn’t even predict such a score for Sabonis (though I was glad to trade him in).  All of last week’s candidates (bar Luka) performed really well and scores were in excess of 1200 across the board for anyone taking things serious by this stage of the year.  The magical mark of 1400 was nearly reached as well with the top weekly scorer racking up a massive 1384

Conversely, there were some issues around injuries with Butler missing time and Zion is now out for the season (I was cursed with having both).  Williamson is a must trade and the two best candidates to look at are Sabonis and Valanciunas, both of whom have 5 games slates and both teams are in the playoff race.

Coming into the final week, rest will likely play a part for those teams who have clinched like Philadelphia and Utah, so I wouldn’t be holding the likes of Embiid or Gobert this final week.  Also, look to avoid all the teams outside of the playoffs and play-in.  It’s highly unlikley any of these teams will catch up now so I would also be hesitant to keep the likes of Towns & Vucevic who will have no reason to play out the season.

Captaincy Considerations

I’m going to change it up a little bit this week and list the most optimal team (in my opinion) to finish the season.  5 game slates for Indiana, Memphis, Milwaukee and San Antonio makes for some easy choices.

PG Westbrook & Curry

SG Doncic & Butler

C Valanciunas

SF Antetokounmpo & Durant

PF Sabonis & Jokic

If you want to look outside of these players, Lillard, Beal, Derozan and Anthony Davis represent some other good choices.  AD was slow coming back from injury but had a stellar game against the Suns today finishing with 42, 12, 5, 3 & 3.  It’s just whether you can justify him over Sabonis, Jokic and Valanciunas.
