Dream Team NBA Captain Options – Week 19

By
Updated: April 26, 2021

Week 19 is upon us and that means it finals time on Sportsdeck for our NBA Dream Teams!   There aren’t any second chances, it’s a straight elimination-style setup, so this would be the week to load up and use up your cap space on the field as much as possible.  At this point of the season, you should have luxury trades to make and a team full of premos.  Keep monitoring your players’ schedules and possible rest games.  It’s still a safe bet to have players from teams competing for playoff spots and seeding.

After a lean period since before the all-star break, Giannis Antetokounmpo returned his best weekly outing since week 9 with 154 points and the highest score for the week.  Ja Morant was the surprise packet of the week racking up 140 points.  He handled the extra usage whilst Jonas Valanciunas was out, and from a team perspective had some important wins against the Blazers, who are now in danger of dropping into the play-in tourney.  The expected captaincy candidates of Nikola Jokic, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook, and Nikola Vucevic all scored well. Luka Doncic and Joel Embiid had off weeks, both failing to score tonnes.

On the injury front, the relevant players who are injured or questionable include- Trey Young, James Harden, Zach Lavine, Kristaps Porzingis, Luka Doncic, Christian Wood, Kevin Porter Jr, Domantas Sabonis, Kawhi Leonard, Ben Simmons, DeAaron Fox, Chris Boucher & Donovan Mitchell.  Keep tabs on the DTD guys on Tuesday morning if you’re waiting on status updates, in particular, Luka Doncic will have eyes on him, but he is expected to play from what the info I’ve seen.

Captaincy Considerations

Big week of action, Dallas, OKC, and Toronto with 5 game slates this week as they play catch-up for games missed earlier in the season.  There aren’t any real standouts from these teams, with the exception of Luka, so our premos will still likely be a better choice in most instances

  • Pascal Siakim will get a mention here.  Toronto is in the midst of chasing a playoff spot still, so expect some solid numbers, just be wary of chasing numbers for a week as they only play the 3 games the week after.

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo looks to be back to his usual self and is a must-have now.  I had to make a slight downgrade elsewhere, but do what you have to get him in.  Games against Charlotte, Houston, Chicago, and Brooklyn are mouth-watering.  150 is well on the cards again this week

  • Russell Westbrook has a nice schedule too, with all 4 opponents fantasy-friendly for PGs.  He did get outscored by Beal this week, but he is a virtual lock to tonne up and do it easily.  Much like Toronto (and half of the eastern conference).  The Wizards are in the hunt for playoffs still and Russ will stat pad in the deadest of rubbers anyway.  Pencil him in for 120+

  • Nikola Jokic doesn’t need much exploring when it comes to reasoning.  He is so far out in front in total Fantasy points that he is lonely and daylight is second.  A walk up start to score 130+.

  • Luka Doncic will be a wait-and-see for the first matchup and unfortunately, they have a late-game Tuesday morning our time. The Mavs do have a 2 game road trip to start the week, but they have played better away from the AAC compared to at home all season.  A couple of games vs Sacramento, who is giving up historically bad numbers, Golden State, Detroit, and Washington are great on paper, just check Twitter for updates if you’re holding him.

  • Rudy Gobert is overdue to feature on my shortlist.  Whilst Mitchell has gone down, his average in that time is just under 30 fantasy points a game.  Add in a couple of favourable games against Minnesota and Sacramento, I fully expect Rudy to crack 120 this week.

  • Kyrie Irving’s inclusion is fraught with trepidation based on a history of just taking time off as he sees fit.  However, his recent run of form whilst missing Harden and Durant (partially) is too hard to ignore.  Coming off his best week of the season (137), he could be the difference-maker in your H2H finals matchup with only 2.8% ownership. Only Rudy Gobert has lower ownership for players averaging above 25.  Have you got the balls to bring him in this week?

Other potential candidates include Nikola Vucevic, Zion Williamson, Joel Embiid, Bradley Beal & Jimmy Butler.

Will’s Captain – Luka Doncic

Just based on 5 games and an average of 30, it’s hard to look elsewhere to ignore.  Check out the latest news before the lockout, if he sits, put the armband on Giannis Antetokounmpo.
