Dream Team NBA Schedule Analysis – Week 4

Updated: January 11, 2021

This weeks’ article was going to be all about trying to get as many Philadelphia 76ers into your team as possible, given that they have a 5 game week. Then Seth Curry goes and gets Coronavirus, and it stuffs all the plans. Curry was out of Friday’s game anyway after picking up an injury, and was sitting on the bench in street clothes when he was informed of his positive test. This prompted a lock down in New York, and contact tracing went into overdrive. Sunday’s game against the Nuggets was in serious doubt, but they ended up being able to scratch together 8 players – including the injured Mike Scott, who went through warm ups and then just sat on the bench so the game could proceed. As well as Curry, popular players Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris also missed the game. Embiid and Simmons both have genuine injuries apparently, with Simmons in particular set to miss multiple games due to a knee injury.

To add to this,  other star players Bradley Beal, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are also under a cloud due to COVID protocols. This comes on the back of Kevin Durant and Michael Porter Jr sitting out last week to quarantine (the latter of which will sit out even longer after breaching quarantine rules). Beal looks like he will return after missing just one game, but the Celtics are a problem. When I woke up this morning and saw that the Heat/Celtics game was postponed, I wasn’t surprised given what has happened in the last 24 hours. What was surprising is the fact that it was postponed because the HEAT couldn’t field a fit roster, not the Celtics. Furthermore, the Mavericks practice facility has been shut down following a second positive test in the team in the last 48 hours. It’s enough to drive a sane coach crazy! It’s probable that you have at least 2 of those players, it’s likely that you have 3, possible that you have 4, and not unlikely to have 5. This becomes a problem when you only have 3 trades each week.

Could this be the first week that your bench players are actually useful for something other than cash generation???

Schedule Breakdown

Max Game Teams – Philadelphia, Indiana, Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, Memphis, New York, Orlando, Washington – 8 Games

There are a plethora of teams with the maximum 8 games this fortnight. This is a good thing because if this week has taught us anything, it is not to load up on too many players from a single team. One positive test and your week is ruined. Ideally, you would have some Sixers and Pacers players in your team. As mentioned above, no-one knows yet what the Sixers will be doing, so let’s have a look and see what the Pacers have been doing this season.

Domantas Sabonis is the leading Fantasy player for Indiana through the first 2 weeks. He is averaging 30.3Fppg, and his Week 3 scores so far are 29, 28 and 35, so he is a good solid option. The other player to look at from the Pacers is Malcolm Brogdon. He has been balling out in Week 3, scoring 36, 37 and 23 in their 3 games. He will be priced around $10m so should be good value also.

Oh Captain, My Captain!

The obvious selection would be either a 76er or a Pacer. Given that Simmons is out injured, and Embiid is unlikely to play all 5 games, I would stay away from them. I think you could be comfortable going with Sabonis or Brogdon assuming they will play every game. Of the 4 game teams, I like Luka Doncic, Julius Randle, Nikola Vucevic, Damien Lillard and Bradley Beal.

Keeler’s Captain Choice – Brad Beal (Was)

I’m going to back Beal in to score more in 4 games than the Pacers boys will score in 5. Before missing the last game, Beal was on an absolute tear. In the two games he did play this week, he scored 53 and 31 Fantasy points. He averaged 28Fppg over the first two weeks, and his floor as been very good. It’s unlikely he will put up a sub 25 score for you.
