AFL Supercoach Captain predictions – RD 9

Updated: May 19, 2017

Heading into this round we are left with the huge conundrum of who to pick in the absence of ROCKY. Injuries unfortunately are unpredictable and I wish him a speedy recovery. At least I’ve had him in my side since the start of the season and he has helped me move up the rankings and currently ranked just over 900, so thank-you Tommy.!! Now down to business.

Who in the SC world is going to take Rocky’s place? Fortunately in SuperCoach we have two chances to get it right. Until now I haven’t had to use a VC loophole, but nailing the Captains over the coming weeks heading into the BYES is key and it’s going to come in very handy, so hopefully some of the VC scores will be worthy of keeping.

Leading into this round our teams should by now, have several premium options making their mark. So let’s take a look at some of the numbers and stats for Captains for Round 9, 2017.

_GEELONG v WESTERN BULLDOGS at Simonds Stadium:

Patrick Dangerfield has so far this year been performing below par, but the good thing is, he’s back playing on his favourite hunting ground, where he averaged 31 disposals in 2016. Last time he played the Doggies was in round 19, 2016, he had 33 disposals and scored ( 144 ) points, prior to that was round 13 last year, where he scored a whopping ( 173 ) points, thank-you very much and YES, I will be whacking the VC on him this week. Just be aware he’ll most likely cop another tag but I don’t think that will stop him in this game and since he only has the VC on him it’s a chance I’m willing to take.

Scott (Scooter) Selwood will be returning from a long time out with injuries, and his presence around the clearances will be noticed “especially by the player he most likely tags”. I can’t help but think, this will assist the mids greatly, and his brother Joel is likely to reap the rewards, posting a score worthy of also putting the VC on.

_St KILDA v SYDNEY at Etihad Stadium:

The Swan’s Boys are back in town this week, playing SAINT KILDA under the roof at Etihad Staduim. That’s good news for BUDDY owners!!! Last time Franklin played the Saints at this venue was round 21 last year, where he kicked a bag of 6 goals, 28 disposals, and scored a whopping 141 SC points. He has a B/E of 47 and if you don’t have him in your team, I’d seriously consider getting him. Others from this game that also got high numbers last time the two teams met are, Josh Kennedy 120, Parker 126 and Hannebery 131. Big test for the Swans but their form slump is starting to turn.. Good times coming.

_BRISBANE v ADELAIDE at the Gabba:

No Rocky, yeah we know!!!
SLOANE anyone? Before you say no thanks, take a look at his numbers, and YES, he has been dismal over the last couple of weeks but he did cop the Gibson and Vince tags and was successfully shut down. Let’s not forget how he started off the year and still has an average of 118 & is ranked 1st in the competition for tackles. This week Rory travels to Brissy to play the Lions in his 150th GAME. The Lions are a team he scores well against ( 149 & 137 ) in his last two meets, and a whopping ( 172 ) last time he played at the GABBA back in 2014. With no Robinson to tag him, the question is, will the Lions turn to someone else to nullify him?! If the answer is no, then this game Rory could go HUGE. Bonus points for those who have him playing his 150th game..!

Just a little side note: Rory Laird is averaging 33 disposals and has dominated against the lower ranked teams all season. He’s ranked 2nd in the AFL for hard ball gets and up against a team that leaks points, I’m expecting another big game from Rory L.

_FREMANTLE vs CARLTON at Domain Stadium:

Carlton is no stranger to this venue, having played against Freo at Domain Stadium on 18 previous occasions, with a win loss ratio of 11 to seven in Freo’s favour. This game will be fast paced and won and lost through the clearances, and on the scoreboard. Cripps and Fyfe will more than likely be getting the tag, which allows Murphy and Neale to run free to clock up possessions. Neale is in good form, with a last 3 round average of 133.3, and I see no reason why he wont score well for this game. Docherty too, is another player to look out for in this game, and I expect him to get another great defenders score in SC. Could be a sneaky unique Captain for those looking for a POD.

_MELBOURNE v NORTH MELBOURNE at the MCG:

Todd Goldstein comes up against a RUCKLESS Melbourne.. While Pedersen is doing a good job, he is no match for Goldy (one of the best rucks) in the game. This may not be pretty, and I expect Todd to be the biggest guaranteed lock CAPTAIN of the round. I’m not saying he will score the highest, but he will come close, so if you’re stuck for options and have Goldy, don’t hesitate placing the “C” on him.

________________________PREDICTIONS________________________

1. RORY SLOANE ( 146 )

2. LACHIE NEALE ( 143 )

3. DANIEL HANNEBERY ( 136 )

4. PATRICK DANGERFIELD ( 130 )

5. TODD GOLDSTEIN ( 127 )

_____________________The best of the rest_____________________

LANCE FRANKLIN, tempted to put the VC on him.

OLIVER, has produced very consistent footy to date.

PENDLES/ADAMS/TRELOAR vs Hawthorn leaking 100’s.

ZAC MERRETT, gets a lot of uncontested footy, racks up the possessions and rarely looks to get the tag.

ZORKO, no Rocky and Beams back we all could do with some magic…

GOOD-LUCK all and remember, fortune favours the brave..!
