Herbie’s #BBL06 Round 1 Captain’s Picks

Updated: December 19, 2016

It has been three months since the AFL and NRL Fantasy seasons have concluded, and unless you have indulged in the BPL fantasy competition or the A-League fantasy competition, the Big Bash League is your fix of fantasy during the off season! Boy are all the guys at OTLS pumped for the 6th edition of the Big Bash League. With 5 games put down for Round 1 and the Melbourne Stars having a bye we have a look at Captains for your fantasy sides and the 5 you will see all feature in two games each in Round 1!

Travis Head: It’s simple, this is the man keeping Glenn Maxwell out of Australia’s ODI side, so he must be decent? Only two players racked up more fantasy points in BBL05 than Travis Head, those being Andre Russell and Shane Watson, no wonder Head is a six figure price in Big Bash Fantasy. An addition to his game over the last 12-24 months has been his ever improving off spin, expect Travis Head to bowl anywhere from 2 to 4 overs in each game this upcoming week. Plus, who could ever forget his New Year’s Eve special last year where he produced arguably the competition’s most entertaining century.

Andre Russell: Is this man’s “signature” the most in demand one in your fantasy sides this season? If he isn’t in your side you must have an absolute gem replacing him! With an unbelievable career strike rate of 166.12 in Twenty20’s around the world, it isn’t hard to see why he is in such demand. Russell’s bowling was arguably one of the biggest upsides last summer. With the potential of clicking above 145km/h the opening ball combination of Pat Cummins and Russell, it will make it tough for sides to stay composed, add that on top of his fielding efforts and this man is surely a shoe in in sides that make it into the later stages of fantasy competitions.

Eoin Morgan: A man who has been known to have been a thorn in many an opposition side. The interim captain at the Thunder whilst Shane Watson is out injured, he averages a tick under 27 in Twenty20’s at a strike rate of just under 130.He will be looking to make a sudden impact in the local derby on Tuesday night, and he has been known to stand up in key matches.

Moises Henriques: When you average a tick under 25 with the bat and under 30 with the ball in Twenty20’s you are going quite well, and that is exactly what Henriques is doing at the minute. Sure, coming off another calf injury isn’t the ideal run in but after getting a practice game or two under his belt coming into BBL06 Henriques is poised to strike, expected to come in at his preferred position of 4 Moises will be looking to add to his forever consistent record.

Kane Richardson: Some may consider this a bit of a smoky selection, and it is! Arguably one of Australia’s most consistent limited overs bowlers, yet he just cannot get a look into the national side. Found some great form in the last round of the Sheffield Shield with figures of 3-64 and 3-23 against NSW, expect Richardson to keep things nice and tight and pick up one or two wickets each game.

So there you go, 5 Captains that could all have a field day this round of the Big Bash, here’s hoping you have the side to take you all the way this season, and good luck to everyone for the first round of BBL06 Fantasy!
