The traditional ANZAC Test is in the books and our attention turns to the 2016 State of Origin series.

The lead up to this year’s series has not been without it’s fair share of adversity with number positional battles being the talking point – none more so the New South Wales halves battle.

12 of the 17 players selected for Australia were Queenslanders. While the Maroons team almost picks itself once again, there is question marks on the backline following injury to Will Chambers and the retirement of Broncos legend Justin Hodges.

New coach Kevin Walters is set to use club-combinations which could see incumbent Knights winger Dane Gagai dumped in favour of the Cowboys right-side attack.

The Maroons will also be without a host of stars due to part of the squad breaking curfew this pre-season. The likes of in-form playmakers Ben Hunt, Anthony Milford, Cameron Munster and prop Dylan Napa will be missing.

The biggest casualties of the 2015 Queensland side appear to be experienced props Nate Myles and Jacob Lillyman. While their club form has been inconsistent, it may be irresistible to ignore in-form Broncos prop Josh McGuire and Cowboys’ Gavin Cooper.

The Blues aren’t without their own headaches. It is widely expected coach Laurie Daley will implement his loyalty strategy this series. This resulting in potential bolters Ryan James and Bryce Cartwright missing selection.

Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce has stated he wants to miss this years series to aid in his rehabilitation. Should Daley accept the move, it will almost guarantee that Knights playmaker Trent Hodkinson will retain his spot, in spite of the Knights troubles this season.

Who will partner Hodkinson in the halves appears to be a two-horse race between Sharks five-eighth James Maloney and Raiders’ general Aidan Sezer.

Injured Tigers prop Aaron Woods is set to return from injury in the next two weeks making him available for selection, while Roosters’ Boyd Corder continues to impress following a shoulder injury that ruled him out for the first seven weeks of the competition.

Players like Hodkinson and Scott need to go! Wouldn’t have Merrin either.
Cartwright is a must! So is Fifita.
Ennis or Peats would be equal if not above Farah for Hooker.
Not sure about halfback…Sezer, A Reynolds or Townsend?
